This is the latest reply from that Google newsgroup, so I get the impression doubts are starting to set in:

Sorry, but to possibly invite the wrath of some Stoo supporters, I have to
say that telling people your too busy to test the disks is a very arrogant
attitude to take when there are genuine fans/collectors out there who may
spend a LOT of their hard earned cash buying these disks. Stoo, you may run
two businesses and have lots of spare cash lying around, but perhaps you
should take some time to think carefully about the prospective buyers of
your disks, some of whom may not have money to throw away on *possibly*
damaged goods.

Quite frankly I think it is insulting that someone of your stature is unable
to set aside a couple of hours to arrange for the disks to be verified. If
there's anyone out there that can source a test machine very quickly, then
that person is you.

Of course, I agree that the data on those disks could easily last 20, 30,
40, 50 years or more, but that's not the point. The point is that at the
end of the day in that particular auction you are basically saying, "Here's
some disks.", "They might contain some data on them, but if they don't then
that's tough", "Don't come crying to me after you've wasted a few hundred
quid because I'm washing my hands of everything once the auction has been
paid for."

I really do think you owe it to your supporters and the genuine collectors
out there to verify that data.

Anyway, I've said my piece. I really do hope that the disks are in good
order, and I wish you luck in the auction, if only for the sake of the
charity involved.
Was this you though Mike? Sounds a bit like you, although you'd never live it down posting in there. ;)
