Don't know if you can get it for PC, but I found a program called HandBrake, which converts a DVD to MPEG-4 (which you can easily turn into DivX or XVid). It's free, really easy to use, and the quality is pretty good.

Ah sorry, they usually have plenty of freeware stuff on there...

While on the subject, if you like your manga-style animation, check out Spirited Away. It's simply superb, with a great story. Really enjoyed it when I saw it in the cinema.

The port was mainly used for a mouse anyway, but a hub looks like a good idea seeing as he's about to add more to his setup...

The machine is under warranty, but it's mainly due to the amount of work on right now that he doesn't want to take it back just yet.
