NAME:
Damian Smith
COMPUNET ID:
RS9
WHAT HE DID:
Nothing which was of any significance, though I was a very
frequent user. I think my record quarter bill came to around
£250 of which my dad was not to impressed with. I got my modem
through the Zzap 64 offer and stayed a member of CNET for
about a year. I was around 15 years old at this time. Cnet
then removed my local log-on node to a one which would mean
even bigger phone bills, so the membership had to go. I did
also use the user 2 user software which was very handy for
making secure offsite backup of my friends games. It wasn't
bad timing though, I did have my sights on a Amiga at the
time I left (which required me to sell my C128). I got involved
with a few demos (some using the demo creator, (ok, very lame,
but at least I admit it !) but nothing which was considered
as CNET history! I had much more impact on the Amiga scene
with demos, compilations, free phonecalls etc.
CLAIM TO COMPUNET
FAME:
Probably made Partyline & MUD a good financial sideline for
CNET!
WHAT'S HE
UP TO NOW:
Went to University for 4 years, worked for Oracle UK for 3
and now working as a freelance Oracle Applications Technical
Consultant.
OTHER STUFF:
Hoping to find the CNET system back up on the web someday
!
TOP THREE
FAVOURITE PROGRAMS/HARDWARE:
1) The C128 & C64 have massive memories, especially CNET which
makes the internet look very poor, considering how old CNET
is. 2) The Games on the C64, must be Spy V Spy series and
Racing Destruction Set. 3) My Amiga (My last machine was A2000
with 68030 card & SCSI drive) was a great bit of kit, do not
use it much now but I still think the operating system was
top and still shows windows 98 how fast it should be done!
4) There has never been many decent games over the last few
years but I would have to say Syndicate and Dungeon keeper
are excellent !
BETWEEN WHICH
DATES WERE YOU A MEMBER OF COMPUNET:
Hard to remember, must have been April 86 to April 87. I got
my Amiga 500 a week after it came out, I had to raise the
cash by selling all my 64/128 stuff. I think that must have
been around April 87.
