DVD to DivX - how?

Post by beardfreak »

Ok then - I remember a disk Chain gave me ages ago to convert DVD to DivX and I never knew how to use the various tools.

Is there a new app' out there that will do this "easily" for me?

Tar

Any of these any good to you? I was on Versiontracker myself earlier grabbing some music software, so thought I'd have a look for you. :D

Don't know to be honest Dan ... need direction really. What I'd like really is a tool that opens, you pop your DVD disk in and are given a list of what is on the DVD (ie. menu/root/main) etc and then you can choose which to rip and encode.

The best free program to use is a little app called gordian knot. It is very very powerful and has some excellent codec conversion routines. In fact go to this web site it is excellent for all sorts of codec & divx stuff.

 Great site, but BLIMEY .... those tools look really fiddly to use. Just read the guide to GordianKnot ... sounds ace, but HAAAAARD to follow.

It appears as though you need a pretty clean and powerful system to get the most out of the tool as well. Mine is clogged up with stuff at the moment and HD space is an issue.

Must have spring clean - must have spring clean

where is the guide for that program?

read the small guide included in the program itself.... but need some more info.....

HD space is a bummer when ripping DVD's.....

it can use about 12 GIG to rip and squash a dual sided DVD to a burnable 4.7 gig DVD

too stoned methinks

Don't know if you can get it for PC, but I found a program called HandBrake, which converts a DVD to MPEG-4 (which you can easily turn into DivX or XVid). It's free, really easy to use, and the quality is pretty good. ;)

According to the page http://handbrake.m0k.org/ , it's available for beOS and Linux as well.... so if you have access, would highly recommend giving it a go: :)

It's full quality output too.
