NAME:
Steve Day ( ste_day@hotmail.com
)
COMPUNET ID:
Ste'86
WHAT HE DID:
Graphics & lots of em. Staic pictures, sprites charset graphics
for games & demos. started in 1986 and finished (on CNET) in 1988.
probably the last picture uploaded on the net was Lethal Weapon
2, but i couldn't swear to this as it was done in 1989, a good 14
months after I last logged on.
CLAIM TO COMPUNET
FAME:
Having one of the largest Hall of Fame dirs on CNET (along with
BOB & Dokk). Being a member of one of Cnet's most prolific demo
teams (MEANTEAM Yeeeeaaaahhh!) which SOME say had an ego to match
(please see above). I seem to remember we were always at "war" with
someone, and discussing with Tob (of Hex & Tob) creating a fake
dispute just to sit back & see which side eveyone took. I was a
fairly regular Pline user and remember fondly the days when cnet
were changing over their mainframe and so they let us use pline
for free to stop everyone moaning about being chucked off every
15 mins or so.
WHAT'S HE UP TO
NOW:
Still a graphic designer but for print rather than screen. Recently
with the retail advertising dept. of a large regional West Mids
newspaper (Express & Star for those in the Midlands). Currently
with a new design company specialising in corporate identity (logos,
advertising, web sites, brochures etc). Was involved in game graphics
until about '95/'96. Ended with the all too familiar story of a
Software House collapsing owing several thousand pounds to the design
team etc. so I decided it was time to move on. (The funny thing
is, several years after swearing Iwould never get involved in games
again, the enthusiasm is still there at the back of my mind).
OTHER STUFF:
I have lost touch completely with Pete (JCB) and Claka. Last I heard
Pete was working for Phillips in Dorking. But guys, if you read
this mail me!
TOP THREE FAVOURITE
PROGRAMS/HARDWARE:
1. Koala Pad & paint (cost £100 in '86 but got money back from 1
loading screen for Codemasters) 2. Elite
(S/W houses deserve a good kick for not realising this would be
an incredibly successful online multiplayer game) 3 Pirates! by
Microprose (does anyone know where Ican get an uncracked version
to run on a C64 emulator, as the Eaglesoft hack doesn't work).
BETWEEN WHICH DATES
WERE YOU A MEMBER OF COMPUNET:
saw much of the net with JCB's modem in '86. Bought my own in '87,
had it for about 14-16 months but quit in '88 when most of the other
cnet demo "personalities" left.
