NAME:
Stephen Robertson
COMPUNET ID:
SIR
WHAT HE DID:
Demos and artwork mainly, including one of the chicken song
demos. I wasn't very good at coding or music, so a couple
of friends did that, while I did the art.
I was working for various software
companies at the time doing loading
screens, so I occasionally uploaded the odd loading picture
too.
I was frequently on party-line having
a chat. One of the things I remember
was that there were very few women on Compunet, and new guys
were always trying to chat-up the Editor - Jane Firbank, obviously
not knowing that she was a psychologist!
CLAIM TO COMPUNET
FAME:
I suppose my real claim to compunet fame was that I got satirized
in a
ZZap!64 compunet article along with MANIAC and a couple of
others. I was really annoyed at the time, but I suppose I
must have been famous enough to take the mickey out of, so
it was quite flattering really.
I was fairly well known for some of
my C64 artwork. A couple of my pictures are on this site.
WHAT'S HE
UP TO NOW:
I'm a senior designer for a games company called Particle
Systems, working on a PC space game called Edge Of Chaos-
Independence War - ( Shameless plug: http://www.independencewar.com
)
I've worked in the games industry almost
continuously since the Compunet days, and have worked for
lots of games companies, including: Firebird, Activision,
Hewson, Andromeda Software, Argonaut, Philips Media, Cranberry
Source, and Particle Systems.
I'm married with 2 children, and living
in Sheffield.
OTHER STUFF:
I'd love to hear from other Compunetters who may remember
me. Oh, and take a look at my alien autopsy site, which you
can find by jumping to http://www.ravenger.demon.co.uk
Me and a bunch of colleagues at work
put together a little alien autopsy
spoof video, and put it on the site. However, the alien autopsy
fanatics out
there frequently miss the joke...
TOP THREE
FAVOURITE PROGRAMS/HARDWARE:
Elite - I played that for six weeks straight to get to Elite.
I was lucky
enough to win a copy at a computer show. You had to get the
most cash in two dockings. I missed winning a disk drive by
30 credits.
The Koala Pad - It made drawing much,
much, easier than using a joystick. I bought mine second hand
for 50 pounds, and earned enough with it to get an Amiga 1000.
The C64 - It was my gateway into the
computer game industry, and it had some of the best games
ever, including MULE.
BETWEEN WHICH
DATES WERE YOU A MEMBER OF COMPUNET:
I have no idea - it's so, so long ago. I realise that I'm
getting old now.
It must be around 85 / 86 as that's when the majority of my
artwork was
done.
