NAME:
Steve Harcourt - steveslackwagon.freeserve.co.uk
COMPUNET ID:
Pyros
WHAT HE DID:
I probably spent far too much money on phone bills just mucking
about, having a good laugh, as well as the more serious endeavours
- such was the greatness and fun of the Compunet community.
Apart from that I wrote and uploaded a load of demos, some
done on my own (including one I remember that started with
an imitation of a virus from the amiga which had a red and
white bar across the centre of the screen - quite sad!) and
some with Mark Daniels (Bodd - md13). A few of those demos
were OK, especially the ones done with Mark, although it's
possible that the passage of time has had an effect on my
memory.
CLAIM TO COMPUNET
FAME:
Not much to be said here, except that I have to admit to being
involved in the tape fast-saver as mentioned by Mark Daniels.
(shame on us...)
WHAT'S HE
UP TO NOW:
Well since Cnet I've done all sorts (including archiving spoken
English), but for the past few years I've been doing the musician
thing in various bands and on my own. The last band I was
in was Collapsed Lung which was responsible for the football
Coke advert (Eat football etc.....) amongst other things.
In the last year or so I've been doing several things under
different names depending what style they are, such as: SlackWagon
(short films, library music, general), Jack Slack (more beats
orientated), Aerobic Christians (house/beats - with Dan Pastry)
and Spoiler (pop - with Lee Edwards) - to name a few. Computer
wise I haven't programmed anything for years, but I still
use one machine or other every day, whether it be for sequencing
or whatever.
OTHER STUFF:
During the time I was on Cnet, I wrote a really poor quality
game called Colonel Chuck. It has to be said that the music
was the only good thing about it (I'm going from memory here
as I blew up the SID on my 64 a couple of years back after
using it as a filter for external sounds), but strange though
it may now seem, I didn't actually do the music! The men responsible
were Hawk and Snork. Anyone remember them, where are they
now??
TOP THREE
FAVOURITE PROGRAMS/HARDWARE:
1. When I first joined compunet I didn't have a 1541 (I know,
it sounds a bit foolish!), so that fast saver version of the
Cnet software really saved my bacon. 2. Games wise, I really
liked anything by Jeff Minter and there are probably too many
other games to list; I still have them all in the house though.
(as well as god knows how many copies of Zzap and The Games
Machine). 3. Competition Pro Joystick - a champion of the
period...
BETWEEN WHICH
DATES WERE YOU A MEMBER OF COMPUNET:
I am really not sure! I started on compunet a short time after
Mark (Bodd - md13) joined, as he got me into it and I must
have been on for a couple of years. This would have been somewhere
between 1986 and 1989.
