NAME:
Russ Michaels
COMPUNET ID:
RG9 (guessing, could be wrong)
WHAT HE DID:
Upload dubious DELTA FORCE demos. My handle was IRONFIST in
those days and I hadn't been coding long so my group (DELTA
FORCE) was no doubt considered as crap as the demos. Didn't
really spend that long online as I couldn't afford that partyline
charges. Got kicked off for uploading my version of user2user
for someone. Even though it was given another name and hidden
so other people couldn't find it.
CLAIM TO COMPUNET
FAME:
Zilch!! the only thing I can think of is when Electronic Arts
called Compunet and begged them to reinstate my account and
offered to pay them to do so. WHY?? because I had just written
the loader system for International Karate + and they desperately
needed it that day and uploading it to compunet for them to
download was the fastest way. Needless to say Jane was a total
bitch and wouldn't even activate my account long enough to
upload 1 file.
WHAT'S HE UP TO NOW:
Web Programmer for one of Europes largest global Internet
Service Providers (not for long though, looking for a new
job). I also have my own Internet Services and Web Design
business on the side (www.satachi.com).
Currently learning C++ to add to my list of languages and
up my income a bit more.
OTHER STUFF:
After Compunet there were various cracking group activities
for me in the groups Laser and Zenith, I eventually started
my own business as a Commodore Dealer (Electric Boys Entertainment
Software), importing/publishing hard/software, UK distributor
for CMD etc etc, unfortunately I left it a bit late to start
supporting the C64 as the only users left seemed to be the
ones who had no money. Anyway went bankrupt and still am.
Got married, got divorced, got a mortgage..joined a rockband,
did the sex, drugs, rock'n'roll thing blah blah blah and now
eventually settled down and became normal and boring.
TOP THREE
FAVOURITE PROGRAMS/HARDWARE:
CMD FD2000 3.5" floppy drive, this lovely drive really does
make life easier with it's 1.6MB storage capacity and device
swap button. Expert Cartridge, I did all my early programming
on this the best cart ever, shame about no fastload though.
JiffyDOS, Turbo and DOS wedge system. Solved the problem with
the expert and as it was hardware based sped up all multiload
progs as well! 100% compatible with everything. C128D, OK
so that's top 4 hardware but I had to include my lovely C128D,
I couldn't have lived without that 80column display and 2mhz
mode. Turbo Assembler. When I finally started programming
on this assembler I never looked back. GEOS. The poor mans
business tool, while I ran my 64 business I used Geos128 for
everything. Superbase128, the original DBASE, a very useful
programmable database solution, again used for running my
business.
BETWEEN WHICH
DATES WERE YOU A MEMBER OF COMPUNET:
Jesus I can't remember, I guess I was 15 or so so it was around
1985 or so. My memory went a long time ago
